Passage: John 6
In the start of John 6 Jesus miraculously feeds five thousand with originally just 5 barley loaves and two fishes. The people were amazed that they wanted to make Jesus King right then and there. But Jesus perceiving this, chose to withdraw to the mountains instead (John 6:15)
Verse 22, the next day comes and the people start looking for Him again. Jesus tells them in verses 26-27 that they are seeking Him not for what He did but what He could give them (food). And in verse 56 says “Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.”
What Jesus said appalled many, and on that day many of his disciples deserted Him. (John 6:66)
The thought of cannibalism is offending and gross. But that was not what Jesus was teaching. Yes Jesus spoke figuratively, but it was necessary to reveal the hearts and motives of the people who followed Him.
You see, many sought after Jesus cause they wanted to get something out of Him. But seeking Christ is much more than receiving, it is about getting to know Him and falling in love with Him in the process.
The Words of Christ was beautiful and simple. “Enjoy me and let me in to your life to be one with you.”
We eat because we need nourishment, and also because we enjoy it. When we eat the food is broken down in our bodies as nutrients and are carried out by the blood to help us function properly.
That’s what Jesus wants for us. He wants us to enjoy Him. To let Him in. To let Him take care of us and our needs. He knows our every desire, our every need, our everything, and He wants to give you what’s best—-BUT you have to start by letting Him be Lord and Savior of your life.
Jesus is not just a character in a story book. He is the Lover of our souls. He is real. He is personal. And He wants you to enjoy His presence. So will you?
