We are SIMPLY too weak in ourselves to operate without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
When we are weak, God is glorified. (2 Corinthians 12:10-That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. )
A lot of Christians experience burn out, frustration, depression and simply do not maximize their lives because they live on their own strength and miss out on the fact that he Holy Spirit is readily available to any child of God who asks to be filled.
The epitome of failure is doing great things that are NOT the will of God.

Are you focusing on doing man’s work instead of God’s work? Superficially it may look like we’re accomplishing a lot in our religious activities, but it may be actually that few peoples lives are being changed.
The Spirit filled life is not a special deluxe edition of Christianity, it is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people -A.W. Tozer
If the power of the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 90% of what we did would go on and no one wouldn’t even notice any difference. But if the Holy Spirit was withdrawn during the time of the New Testament Church, 50% of what they were doing would stop and everyone would know the difference. -A.W. Tozer
Either people are not aware of the power that the Holy Spirit offers, or people are just content with doing things on their own strength.
PROMISES TO THOSE WHO LIVE A SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE
1) The Holy Spirit empowers us to OBEY
(Ezekiel 36:26-27: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.)
Our problem is not KNOWING what to do, but DOING what we ought to do.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh and to those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on things of the Spirit
2) The Holy Spirit empowers us to be Holy and able to bear fruit
The only way to be fruitful is to have DEAD LIMBS cut off…
(Matthew 3:11- “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.)
When we ask for the fire, are we really READY for it?
(Gal 5:16,22-23:So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. … But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.)
God REFINES us by cutting off the dead limbs that do not bear fruit.
"If you have the Word without the Spirit you will dry up, if you have the Spirit without the Word you will blow up…If you have both the Word and the Spirit you will grow up"
3) The Holy Spirit empowers us to be bold and effective witnesses
(Acts 4:31-After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.)
Many of us keep our mouth shut cause we are not filled with the Spirit. If we are filled with the Spirit we would be BOLD enough to speak the gospel
4) The Holy Spirit empowers us to be effective in EVERY AREA of ministry
(Ephesians 4:11-12 - So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up)
The job of leaders is to prepare the body for ministry. Wherever we are and whatever we do, there is a ministry dimension IF we are empowered by the Spirit. Ministry is dedicating ourselves to the Lord wherever the Lord leads us whether in a secular location or within the church.
Something happens when the Holy Spirit takes hold of a weak vessel that is submitted and yielded fully to Him
Trying to do God’s work on your own strength is very tiring, but when you do it with the power of the Holy Spirit the strength just flows through you/
5) The Holy Spirit empowers us to handle new authority
(1 Samuel 16:13-So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah.)
David was only effective because the Spirit was with him. When we are blessed and given positions of authority we need the Holy Spirit to handle that authority with wisdom and grace.
6) The Holy Spirit empowers us to handle responsibility
(Numbers 11:16-17: The LORD said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.)
Believe that God has His Spirit there at your disposal to come upon you and overpower you that you may depend on Him to do the task.
7) The Holy Spirit empowers us to set out on an impossible task / huge mission
(Haggai 2:3-5: 'Is there anyone here who saw the Temple the way it used to be, all glorious? And what do you see now? Not much, right? “‘So get to work, Zerubbabel!’ - God is speaking. “‘Get to work, Joshua son of Jehozadak - high priest!’ “‘Get to work, all you people!’ - God is speaking. 'Put into action the word I covenanted with you when you left Egypt. I'm living and breathing among you right now. Don't be timid. Don't hold back)
(Zechariah 4:6- So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.)
Impossible moments happen so that we become desperate for God.
8) The Holy Spirit empowers us to be able to become brand new person
(1 Samuel 10:6-The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person)
(2 Corinthians 3:17-18: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatethe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.)
(Ephesians 3:16- I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being)
(Titus 3:5-he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit)
We need renewal of the Spirit. There is a great need to be empowered by the Spirit so pray and ASK for the Spirit to come!
Unless the Holy Spirit does the work we are laboring in vain, we are wasting our time, we are spinning our wheels…there’s a harvest to bring in before the coming of the Lord and that harvest will only come in through the power of the Spirit that makes us effective bold witnesses and helps us disciple people and makes us fully committed followers of Jesus Christ.
Questions to Ponder on:
Are you living on the power of the Holy Spirit or on your own strength?
Are you taking responsibility for the things God has entrusted to you?
Do you feel too tired to do what God wants you to?
Are you so confident in what you can do on your own strength?
Is there anything hindering you from being filled with the Spirit that you need to confess and surrender?
