If you personally would ask me I used to think it was just another holiday to do all sorts of crazy stuff… but as I few older I began to understand what halloween really celebrates. It’s the time of the year where ghouls, ghosts and evil spirits are celebrated. Where children dress up as little devils and think it is cute.
I know it may sound legalistic but this is my conviction. No it’s not your conviction, it’s mine. And because it is my conviction I no longer celebrate halloween. Lately i’ve been studying on spiritual warfare and just how intense it really is. And for me celebrating a day for evil spirits is really not glorifying to God.
To close this note up I wanna share something one of our pastors posted on his FB
“Oct 31-Nov 1: “Halloween” or “All Saints Day” either time of year brings many opinions. They vary from “just enjoy & go along” to “rebuke & disdain”. My personal conviction really is not important, except to me. Your conviction is not inspired, but it does matter to your conscience and that is important. Whatever your conviction, I would like to encourage you in one area. Seek the leading of the Holy Spirit to engage those that you love in a dialogue about being safe in Christ–safe from demons, the bogeyman, ghosts & death! Let’s learn from Paul–when confronted with the evils of idolatry he still found a way from God to open a dialogue! Acts 17:22–24 “Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects…I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you – Ask the Lord how to bridge, even if you disagree with the event. He will show you how.”-Pastor Nathan Leigh
So I was watching this History channel and they were talking about hell. The general notion of hell is that when people go to hell satan and his demons will reign there and torture them.
Hell was created for the demons and not for man. Demons know that their day of judgement is coming and they dread that day. Even when Jesus cast out the legion of demons from the man they cried not be thrown into the lake of fire before the appointed time.
So that image that has been painted in our minds is just not Biblical. Demons dread hell just as much as we do-they don’t reign there.
Hey - you posted something about the role of a student: that we need to put our efforts to that as best we can. I wanted to know what your advice is for balancing out school and Bible studies. I spend time each morning with the Lord, but when should I add to that? Should I try to pursue searching more in depth in the Word more and cut back on study time, or continue on and wait to grow during a break in school? Should I just be more patient on what I have to learn? :D Thanks - Katy
Katy! :) Sorrrry it took me forever to get to answer my “asks”
Well as a student our priority is academics over ministry. And by ministry i mean church activities. As a student our ministry is actually as simple as being a good example through out academic life. It is well and good that we have Bible studies in school, just learn to balance it. I know stories of people who focus too much on making events and all for ministry purposes but take their academics for granted. And then there’s the opposite, people who live as if their whole life revolved around studies. It’s always learning to strike a balance of both.
When it comes to growing in the Lord, I believe that there is no time to when we limit when we should grow more. If you desire to grow more in the Lord by all means do so now. Actually as a student you have more time than when you’re working. (haha this is a tried and tested fact haha)
So if you’re heart’s desire is to learn more and grow more—-then by all means GO!!! :)
Hey, just wanted to see how you're doing and let you know what you and your blog often comes up as sources of inspiration for some of the lay leaders over here in nyc. ;]
Woah. That’s BIG!! God alone be praised indeed for this. I praise God that He is alive and moving :) We are all so privileged to have a God who is so real in our lives. God bless you and the rest of the leaders over there at NYC! :) I can only pray that you too would all continue to grow in your desire for the Lord…as the days grow evil and as love grows colder, may you all be the hands and feet of Christ that will touch thousands and thousands of souls for His Kingdom. :)

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out just how much evil there is around us. Look at the media for one and it says enough. Though we live in an evil world we are not called to be hermits and monks to hide on the mountain top to escape the evil. Rather we are called to stand firm and fight the good fight. We are called to be salt and light. And we have been given every spiritual blessing under heaven to fight a noble warfare. So be a good soldier and do as the General commands.
Do you ever feel like you're losing your faith? I'm really struggling with this and I never ever want to doubt God but sometimes I feel like He isn't really real.
Well there are those times when I do feel weak and when my mind is bombarded with lies and doubts… and yes every believer goes through that. But what keeps me holding on in the fact and truth that God is perfect, that God is just, and that God is always right in His decisions… also that as high as the heavens are above the earth so much greater is His wisdom compared to us. In the moments of doubt, we have to make a conscious effort to fight off the lies and trust in the truth. Don’t give up, keep persevering. The last thing the devil would want you to do is to overcome this period of testing. Also take heart because He that is in you is greater than Him who is in the world. And because of Him who lives in you, you are more than able to overcome it :) God bless you anon!
An expert tight rope walker wanted to break the world record and cross over one of the deepest ravines without any nets. So he began advertising his stunt and when the day came a lot of people gathered to watch him.
So the man asked the crowd “Do you believe that I can walk to the end and back without falling?”
"We believe! We believe!" shouted the crowd.
So the man walked all the way to the end and back. The crowd bursted in applause. Then the man asked them once again “Do you believe that I can walk to the end and back with someone riding on my back?”
Once again the crowd shouted in unison “We believe! We believe!”
Then the man asked the crowd “Who will volunteer to ride on my back as I cross the rope?”
The crowd fell silent…so silent that you could hear a pin needle hit the floor. Finally a young boy came up to the man and said “I volunteer.”
The man asked the boy “Are you sure?”
"Yes" came the reply of the boy.
So the boy rode on his back…they crossed the tight rope and came back safely and once again the crowd exploded in cheers. When the boy got off the man’s back he said “That was fun. Thanks dad!”
You see the boy was brave enough to volunteer because he had a relationship with his father. He trusted that his father could do it, and he really believed in his father that he stepped out in faith to volunteer.
Many Christians today are like those in the crowd. Ecstatic to declare that they believe in God yet too doubtful to step out in faith. It’s one thing to say that you believe, it’s another to actually act upon what you believe in.
Until we have surrendered we have not truly believed.
Hi! I really like your blog, it's really inspiring. But I've got a question for you. What to do with regret? And then I'm not talking about regrets of buying the wrong shoes, but really regreting going to bed with your (now ex-) boyfriend for example. It's driving me crazy. I wish I could turn back time and do make the right choice this time. But I can't. I regret it so incredibly much. What to do?
Hi Anon. Sorry just got to reply to your message. It’s amazing that the day you asked this, was the day I too struggled with past mistakes. I know how hard it is to let go and move on… but at the end of the day it is always a choice.
Usually what helps me move on from the past is to ask for forgiveness to those i’ve hurt. To God, and to the concerned persons. Sometimes it’s a bit shameful to even talk about the mistake (Especially if they don’t know about it) but it frees us from the weight of guilt.
Also the truth of the matter is you’re forgiven and loved. all our past mistakes have been forgiven by God. Now the problem is if we will forgive ourselves. The enemy will constantly try to bring u down by reminding us of our past, but we can fight back by reminding him of his future. At the end of the day, God has forgiven us and we are new creations in Him and we can start over-fresh slate and all.
Also we can’t really move backwards and turn back time. So that leaves us with one and only one option. To MOVE FORWARD. Moving forward is a choice. and it will be a choice we will HAVE to make EVERY SINGLE DAY. When the past haunts, we have to choose to let the past live in the past and keep moving forward.
And yes it will be difficult at times, but always remember you have Jesus with you. He will be your strength to carry on, even in our darkest moments. That’s how amazing His grace is.
So let us rejoice that in Christ we are new creations. The old has gone, the new has come. -2 Corinthians 5:17
Hi DJ! I wanted to know if we could ever lose our salvation. For example, if we accepted Christ when small and lived a ungodly life, where do we go after? :-) Thank you.
Hi Isa! Good question.
One can not lose this salvation. Hebrews 13:5 ” Never will I [Jesus] leave you nor forsake you.”
Matthew 7:16 “By their fruits you shall know them.”
Our works do not save us, cause salvation is by grace through faith in Christ. Salvation is not all about us receiving blessings, but it also includes sincere repentance. If one truly wants to follow Christ he or she would be willing to let go of the wrong ways.
Supposedly one was really sincere and did accept Christ—-but backslid or got lost along the way…well no, they do not lose their salvation. However the rewards in heaven will not be the same as those who lived according to what God had intended. :) It’s like the parable of the talents :)
Praise God for nice people with nice messages for you on Tumblr!
After coming from work where clients can be so pushy, and being nice is a rare thing—-you begin to appreciate the smallest thank you :) haha. Work is fun don’t get me wrong, but there are just those days!!!! HAHAHA
Hopefully I can stat writing and posting stuff more often. Do pray for me, i’m fighting sore throat and i feel like i’m gonna get really sick soon. Thanks :) and i love you for following me after all this time :”)
